F&CC sanction awaited for Transport Nagar’s upgrade

LUDHIANA: For the upgrade of Transport Nagar, the bridges and road department is waiting for the finance and contracts committee members’ sanction. Officers are eagerly waiting for the F&CC meeting, scheduled for April 8, as they have included this resolution in the agenda.
The authorities had passed the estimates in January and after three months, they have sent the project for approval.
For the area’s upgrade, the authorities have prepared estimates of Rs 2.7 crore, in which construction of major roads and installation of sewer have been included. As heavy vehicles ply the area, cemented roads, instead of bitumen one, will be constructed.
Five major roads have been selected for it, including the stretch from Link Road to Lohara Pulli, a slipway between DS Transport and Delhi By-pass, a path from Link Road to DS Transport and another one from Disposal Pulli (small bridge) to DS Transport. Besides, 160 new streetlights will be provided and a drain passing through the nagar renovated.
"Before releasing work orders to contractor, it is important to get sanction from F&CC members. And so, we have sent the project details for committee members. After the approval, we will begin the construction work and in the next three months, work will be completed," joint commissioner and head of bridges and road department MS Jaggi said.
Transporters are waiting for the area’s renovation. Ajit Singh Grewal, a transporter in the area, said, "After several complaints, MC has considered to improve the place, but they are taking things lightly. It should increase its work speed."
Echoing similar views, Prithvi Raj Sharma, another transporter, said, "MC must first solve the sewerage-choking problem and then construct roads."
